Geek Swap is for swapping out the things you once thought of as treasure, and yet now no longer need or want. This isn’t meant to be a High-end swap with thousand dollar, one of a kind collectibles being traded for other precious art pieces. This swap is meant for the things you have no place for, but want to make sure they find their way into a geeky home, with a new owner to love them like you once did. You can bring anything you feel is nerdy and geeky to the swap. Anything that you feel is a collectible in some way, or nerdy to you.

This is an all-ages affair with, if space is available, tables for gaming, chatting, and trying out the new stuff you’ve swapped for.  There will be a raffle for fun prizes and a donation jar for those who would like to help out. Everyone is welcome to come and meet new local nerdy people!

What to bring?

Toys and Collectibles – Examples being, He-Man, Transformers, Wrestling toys, anything with a nerdy nostalgia to it. I recommend not bringing mint in box, untouched by the hands of man toys. Maybe just stick to the loose toys you’ve left in a box in your closet.

Comic Books and Graphic Novels – These you can bring in droves, as you never know who may have the missing issues you need. Again while there will be some higher end comics, this is still meant for the boxes of unfinished series that you will ever read again, but have no way to get rid of.

Movies – These can be of the DVD, Blu-ray and VHS variety. Any and all films will be welcome, but the nerdier they are the more likely they will be swapped.

Video Games – Tired of getting less than a dollar on trade-ins at your local Video Game conglomerate? Well at Geek Swap you can bring those games that you’ve been told aren’t worth anything and trade them for other games, and items that will have value to you. I say win-win.

Books – The swap is taking place at a library so bringing those Science Fiction, Fantasy and other nerd style books you’ve got hanging around that you’ll never read again may net you some sweet schwag from some avid readers.

Tabletop RPG’s and Board Games – Now these can run people a pretty penny to purchase, but through the years you may have collected a few games you no longer play, and books that are no longer relevant to whatever RPG you’re currently playing. This is a perfect chance to swap these up with like-minded people

Collectible Card Games – Examples being Magic The Gathering, Pokemon, Yugi-oh and such. I know most players of these fine games of battling cardboard usually have their own trade binders. This would be the time to bring them out and meet new people to swap with. Also, there is a hope that there will be a few tables dedicated to swapping and playing cards games on the day.

Now, this, of course, is not a definitive list, but it is a good starting point to the things you can bring and those to leave at home to get the most out of your swapping.

What not to bring!

Here are some recommendations of things that may not be the best swappable materials.

Fine China, Collectible Cookware – No matter how many times your grandmother has told you that her set of Royal Doulton dishes have value. Odds are you won’t be able to get rid of them here.

Stamps, Coins, Collectible Paraphernalia – Again, not that these are bad things to collect or try to swap for. But you may have a hard time trying to trade some of these items for comics and video games.

Clothes – Other than the odd nerdy shirt with a picture of Dr.Who high-fiving Captain Picard, this isn’t really a clothes type of swap.

Baby and Toddler Stuff – Again, there are swaps for these types of toys and clothes. Geek Swap is not one of them.

Can I Buy Things Instead of Swapping?

Of course, you can, if you aren’t much for swapping, or just don’t have anything to swap then buy away. We still recommend coming with a few things to try to swap, just to keep in the spirit of the event. You can spend as much as you want, but the hope is you will swap first, and only pay if there is no other way. Just remember you are buying from actual people and not vendors, so it is up to you and the person whose stuff you want, to decide on what’s a fair price. There is also no need to price things ahead of time, as again this is a swap, not a yard sale.

The Free Table!

The free table is a time-honored tradition of the geek swap. This table will be a place for anyone to leave the things they brought to geek swap but could not trade, but don’t want to take home. You can even leave things you don’t want to trade but just want to get rid of. The other swappers can take whatever they like from the table free of charge! Like a take a penny leave a penny kind of thing. Except you don’t have to leave a penny this time. Also, the free table falls under swap rules. So, no old TV’s, furniture, or anything else from the What I Shouldn’t Bring List. We reserve the right to refuse any inappropriate items for the free table. We are not a yard sale or junk removers. We will be donating everything left on the free table at the end of the night to appropriate places, like the library itself, and local trade in stores.
